This trip we managed to be present for Songkran, the biggest event of the year in Thailand, it’s Thai new year from the 13th to the 15th of April, this celebrates the sun passing through the zodiac signs Pisces to Aires. Due to covid, Thailand hasn’t been able to celebrate in the streets, this is the first year the country has opened up again to celebrate. Songkran is celebrated with a lot of throwing of water which symbolises cleansing and has become a bigger part of modern traditions.

I spent a few days in Rayong, I’ve not been back to Rayong in quite a few years and it felt really comforting to be surrounded by locals by the sea again. We stayed at Kantary Bay Hotel and Serviced Apartments, it wasn’t expensive at all but the breakfast was a little disappointing. Generally, food in the area was delicious but there weren’t many restaurants nearby, the beach edge was really just hotels across the strip.

I love being back home, as much as England is my home, it’s hard being here especially during the cold months.
