This weekend I headed down to Portobello Road Street Market, you know when you’ve lived in a city for such a long time, things like markets don’t really cross my mind. I don’t think I’ve ever actually visited Portobello but my boyfriend suggested we go and the weather seemed good so why not?

Portobello market has a whole host of stalls from street food, grocers, clothes and antiques but Saturday is the busiest day. We got there quite early and stalls were still being set up and we were so hungry we headed straight for the food stalls. We had a spicy chicken Arepa from Quinoa Arepa with an Inca Kola and honestly it messy but delicious!

An Arepa is a small round grilled corncake stuffed with all sorts, ours had cheese, chicken, fried plantain, avocado and a bit of salad. It was creamy, sweet and just the right kick of spicy, it was a bit expensive for what it is but it’s expected in central London.

Still hungry we headed to Crème for something more to keep us going, Crème is a dessert shop that’s gone viral for their huge soft cookies. I’m on a diet at the moment but it was my boyfriend’s birthday so thought, Cheat Day? We ended up with a Smore’s Hot Chocolate each and a Dulce De Leche cookie to share. It was their original Milk Chocolate with toasted Pecans and Caramelised Condensed Milk throughout, it was so decadent and so worth it. The décor inside Crème was so fitting, I always have such a soft spot for that millennial pink, I was so close to buying a bunch of merch…

To finish off our food tour of Portobello Market we hit PinoyGrill because my boyfriend was missing home. The sweetest lady at the stall gave us some Lechon and we were sold, we shared a mixed grill of Chicken Adobo and Lechon on Rice and Pancit with a bit of homemade chilli oil on top.

It was good but a bit greasy for my liking, Lechon will always be a bit fatty considering what it is but that crispness makes up for it all. This is definitely not diet food but if you’re in the mood for something hearty then this is worth a try.
