To close out this weekend I took my boyfriend to Aquavit, my treat for his birthday. He said he wanted Scandinavian and this is literally the only restaurant that popped up on my Google search! Aquavit London is a the sister restaurant to the two Michelin star branch which focuses on fresh Nordic food.
The interiors were so pretty I wish I got a photo, lots of timber and warm lighting, high ceilings and a central bar, a complete contrast to the icy breeze we’ve had in London recently.
We started the evening with a bourbon and coke, hands down the smoothest bourbon I’ve ever had and I’m really not much of a drinker. We ordered the Scallops and Lobster Bao as starters and weren’t disappointed, the Scallops were nicely cooked through with a lightly browned top. The Lobster Bao was soft, fluffy and just that little bit sweet, I’d say I’m not used to seafood starters like this but it did set me up nicely for the mains.

For the mains we ordered the Beef Rydberg and the Highland Venison with a side of Truffle Mash to share, we were told to mix the Beef altogether and it looked a bit of a mess by the end of it but honestly it was so good. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sweetness of the onions was perfect alongside the Rydberg potatoes. The Venison was likely but I wasn’t a huge fan of the Jus, our server mentioned the is a side of Celeriac puree but the menu said it should have been Parsnip and White Chocolate? It was good but I’m not sure it was something to rave about really.

For dessert we shared a ‘Dajm’ Bar Parfait and a Baked Ostkaka, we had to Google what an Ostkaka was (it’s a baked cheesecake!) and thought we’d give it a go. The ‘Dajm’ Bar Parfait was a thing of dreams, honestly I scooped up all that sauce left on the plate. The Baked Ostkaka wasn’t bad at all but it felt quite eggy? It had a great texture but I wasn’t a huge fan of the flavour in all honesty.

At the end of the meal we were given a few chocolate truffles which were so good but we were so full I couldn’t even finish them. Overall, it was a great experience and a beautiful setting but painfully expensive.
